How do queerness and incontinence overlap to augment the disabled experience? How does impairment differ from disability if at all? Disability is a part of queerness because intersectionality makes it so. In connection, minority stress theory provides that the struggles and lifestyle put upon many in the queer community increase stress and by extension the prevalence of disability in this community. This prevalence affords a more informed and supportive environment for queer disabled individuals, however it also points to the development of new a subculture and experience that is the subject of my work. I make functional tableware and decorative pieces that mimic forms and technology used to increase the standard of living of people with disabilities and weave this with storytelling and contemporary references from queer culture. My ceramic work consists largely of slip-casted multiples that have been altered as well as wheel-thrown vessels that are combined with hand-built forms.
